5 Reasons Why You Should Hire A Professional Newborn Photographer

Humour me...

Have you ever searched DIY newborn photos? Now, have you ever searched DIY newborn photo FAILS? If you haven't, please do!

I've been there.

When my first born came along in 2016 it hadn't even crossed my mind to book newborn photos in. So, you're already one step ahead of me there if you are on my page reading this. I was so extremely fortunate that a local photographer had a last-minute cancellation when she was a few weeks old, so I jumped at the opportunity to lock that in. I wanted to remember all her tiny features and freeze those first few weeks in time as all I kept hearing was how quick the days fly by.

My passion for newborn photography stemmed from that day, but thats a story for another time.

Then in 2019 my second born came along. We had just moved into a newly built house and financially newborn photos weren't on the radar. Soo.... I jumped on ebay and pinterest and did my first ever newborn photoshoot. It included a clothes hanging stand, my daughters beanbag, and some questionable props. Luckily a good friend of mine gifted me a voucher for a photography session, which we used when he was 5 weeks old. I still love the photos I took and look back and have a little giggle often, but I also cringe at the thought of how unsafe my setup was. I should not have put my newborn in that situation.

So here I bring you my 5 reasons why you should hire a Professional Newborn Photographer.

One.

Safety

Newborn photographers prioritise your baby's safety and comfort, ensuring that they are handled gently and posed in safe positions. A large amount of training and practice goes into knowing how to safely achieve all the adorable poses you see over social media. There are quite a few poses newborn photographers achieve by creating a composite (combining two images together in photoshop). This means that at all times there is a hand on baby, but the final image shows the baby being untouched. Your baby's safety is the most important thing.

Two.

Education

Newborns are delicate and handling them requires specialised knowledge to ensure their safety. Proper education teaches photographers how to pose and handle babies without causing harm. Understanding newborn behaviour and cues is crucial for capturing natural and authentic moments. Education helps photographers recognise these cues and work with them effectively. Newborn photography also demands specific technical skills in terms of lighting, camera settings, and post processing. Education helps photographers to develop these skills to capture high-quality images. When you hire a newborn photographer, you are paying for their knowledge and ability to provide you with memories to last a lifetime.

Three

Editing

Editing is crucial in newborn photography for several reasons. Editing allows newborn photographers to enhance the quality of the images. Newborn photographers have access to advanced software for photo editing and acquire the skills through training to correct imperfections or distractions, such as jaundice, scratches, baby acne etc.

It allows photographers to add their artistic touch to the images, creating a unique and personalised style that sets them apart from others in the field. Also as mentioned above, some poses cannot be safely achieved without the aid of photoshop.

Four

Knowledge Of Equipment & Props

Anyone can walk into a shop and buy a camera, lighting and props. But knowing how to use it, albeit safely and incorporating it into a newborn photography session is another thing. Proper knowledge helps prevent accidents and ensures baby's well-being during the photoshoot. Knowing which props are comfortable and suitable for newborns is essential. Experience newborn photographers use safe and comfortable props to create a relaxed and cosy environment for the newborn. Newborn photography involves specialised equipment like beanbags/dog beds, wraps and posing cushions where knowledge of these tools is essential for achieving the desired poses and aesthetics. Hiring a newborn photographer means you don't need to worry about any of that.

Five

Time & Convenience

Hiring a newborn photographer allows you to relax and enjoy the moment, leaving technical aspects of photography to a professional. This is especially valuable during a time when you might be adjusting to the demands of parenthood. The newborn stage lasts for such a short amount of time (which I'm sure is all you keep getting told) so hiring a professional photographer can alleviate the stress of worrying about finding time to capture those important early moments.

WHILE HIRING A NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER MAY COME WITH A COST, THE BENEFITS IN TERMS OF THE QUALITY, SAFETY, AND CONVENIENCE THEY PROVIDE CAN MAKE IT A WORTHWILE INVESTMENT IN CAPTURING THE EARLY MOMENTS OF YOUR BABY'S LIFE.
